The Canberra Post is an independent local information site providing views from Canberra, Australia. The name is similar to The Washington Post, and other mastheads that are popular around the world. The logo is modern, with simple letters, unlike the calligraphic text made popular by other mastheads.
The name does not have anything to with Australia Post, the post office, postal services, stamps, parcels, delivery – you get the drift. We go into why the name says ‘Post’ below. If you didn’t know, Australia Post is a postal service, the largest in Australia.
Why do newspapers have ‘Post’ in the name any way?
The inclusion of ‘Post’ in newspaper names is a reference to the postal service that was used to distribute newspapers. Today, it is a hold over from the original days of newspapers, and are still used by media outlets even if they deliver their news digitally.
What does The Canberra Post do?
We provide a service to our local community, with articles that review, support business, encourage local interest, and provide insights from the point of view of Canberrans. We welcome visitors from all over the world, via our easy to access website, to read information, stories and photos from life in Canberra and what the city has to offer. We welcome comments, thoughts, feedback and even snail mail, in the interest of hearing and giving a platform for Canberra’s voices to be heard and community to be built.
Our goal is to build a local site, that (perhaps, ironically) much like Australia Post, helps connect people, minimise the distance between people, and regardless of their beliefs, gives them a space to be heard and add to discussion.
