Ethics

At The Canberra Post, our priority is earning and maintaining the trust of you, our audience.

Our ethics statement is our effort at transparency and promoting clear guidelines on our ownership, content and resourcing.

Reporting

We strive for honesty, accuracy, fairness, and disclosure of all essential facts. We will not suppress relevant available facts, distort facts, and always be open to reply. We do not report based on personal characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, age or sexual orientation.

Attribution and Sources

We will always attribute information to its source, where the source is open to attribution. Where a source seeks anonymity, we will consider their motives and all other sources before we seek further information. Where we accept confidentiality, we will respect this to the best of our ability.

Independence

We value our independence. This independence means that we are not beholden to a larger organisation or entity, and can publish our opinions freely.

We will not:

  • Allow subjects to review our editorial prior to publishing, nor will we permit them to change our content
  • Make paid endorsements of any kind

Advertising

We will clearly label any sponsored content, whether that be monetary, in-kind or otherwise. We will not let advertising or any other monetary or commercial interest undermine accuracy, fairness or independence.
